Simple reason is I like songs with low sub bass.

There are many songs with high energies below 30Hz!

Cinematic songs examples:

Contains frequencies down to low 20 hz.

Interesting sub level sounds hidden in song:

Low vibrations that sound like foot tapping vibrations in Esperanza recording, especially near the end of song:

Below is 3 seconds analysis near end of song. It is showing energies down to 11 hz!

Examples of my setups

Living room:

As of November, 2022, my living room 2.1 setup can get good response down to 15hz and lower.

Using 12″ sealed sub for 60hz and below. Due to the large +5000 cubic ft and very open living room, the 12″ sub (not placed in corner) start losing energy below 40hz. Have to add a twin 15″ sealed sub (low passed at 35hz) to get enough energy down to 20hz and below.

Below is REW measurement (15 hz to 45 hz) of 12″ sub alone (red line) vs 12″ sub plus the twin 15″ sub (green line), as measure from seat. This is without any EQ applied.

Not the cleanest waterfall chart, but I supposed the decays are even enough to enjoy the sub bass. Below is the waterfall, without any room eq, from 60hz down to 15hz:

Family Room:

As of November, 2022, my mid-size family room (~2000 cubic ft, but very open to the house on the right) subs can go to at least 15hz. To get “clean” sub bass, I used the Paradigm auto eq tool (Arc Genesis) to eq both subs so that there is no excessive bass bloat due to room gains. I combine both subs at one corner to reduce overall distortions when the sub bass is loud.

When placing subs in a corner in mid to small room, the issue typically is excessive, bloated bass due to room modes. It is very helpful to be able to eq the subs to get clean sub bass.

Here is an example of my Paradigm Sub15 measurements before (red line) and after EQ. Without the eq, the sub bass would be too bloated.

Computer Room:

Paradigm 110 can go to 15 hz per measurement. In a small ~1000 cubic ft room, the issue is excessive sub bass. Thus need to eq the bass using auto eq software.

Why I prefer audio systems that have good, clean frequency responses down to at least 20Hz
